Now's the Time to Take Advantage of Travel Deals

Published: Jul 1, 2020

Signs of optimism are apparent. COVID-19 testing has become more readily available. Nonessential health care is no longer delayed, and consumers are feeling more comfortable visiting their providers. Human vaccine trials are underway with the hope that high-risk individuals will have access to inoculations in the near future. In addition, hair salons, restaurants and retailers are open in most places.

The same optimism is seen in the travel industry. Just as an example, American Airlines has recently returned service to eight international destinations. Also, occupancy rates for hotels are increasing according to recent findings published in The Real Deal.

With things returning to some semblance of normalcy, many travelers are considering the idea of picking up where they’d left off concerning pre-pandemic travel plans. But is this a good idea?

An article in Traveling Lifestyle highlights some of the amazing deals available for those interested in taking trips in a post-pandemic world. These deals are being offered at considerable discounts compared to pre-pandemic prices.

Of course, there’s always a risk vs. reward factor. So the question is: why are these travel options being offered so cheaply? The answer is simple. The traveler takes on a lot of risk booking these trips at this time. New COVID-19 outbreaks could occur. Governments could impose travel restrictions without warning. You could be left holding the proverbial bag instead of relaxing at your vacation destination.

So, what does the discerning traveler do to minimize the potential of losing their travel investment? Dan Drennen, Director of Sales and Marketing at Travel Insurance Center®, recommends hedging against trip cancelation or rebooking risk by purchasing a Cancel For Any Reason travel insurance policy. He goes on to mention four points concerning eligibility for this type of coverage.

  1. The policy must be purchased within 21 days of your very first trip payment or deposit. If you go beyond that time frame, then Cancel For Any Reason insurance policies are not an option.
  2. You must insure the full pre-paid, non-refundable cost of the trip.
  3. If you do cancel for any reason not covered under the standard trip cancellation provisions of the policy, you must do so 48 hours or more before departure.
  4. You can now be eligible for a Cancel For Any Reason policy based on a rebooking date. You must purchase the travel insurance within 10 days of your new rebooking date. Contact us directly for a quote or information on this newly released opportunity.
