Hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30. However, according to a statement from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the season peaks from mid-August to late October. That balances the month of September right on the pinnacle.
There’s no way to know how many storms will strike in any given season. Even with all the technology at our disposal, scientists can only predict a hurricane’s route three to five days in advance. And that’s only once the hurricane has formed.
There’s a lot of uncertainty when it comes to hurricanes and hurricane season. What does it all mean to the traveler? What if a hurricane necessitates the evacuation of your vacation destination while you’re there? What if one strikes the week before you are due to arrive and your destination is in ruins?
You invest a lot in your travel excursions. It would be a shame if you lost your investment due to an event outside of your control. Fortunately, Dan Drennen, Director of Sales and Marketing at Travel Insurance Center® has some recommendations that can protect you financially in these situations.
“From a financial standpoint, these are all risks that can be managed,” says Drennen.
“From a financial standpoint, these are all risks that can be managed,” says Drennen. He goes on to explain that it’s always a good idea to cover your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs, but even more so during the hurricane season. If you have valid trip cancellation/interruption coverage which was purchased prior to a storm being named, then you can rest easy knowing that if a hurricane does ruin your trip, it won’t ruin your wallet, and it will help ensure your safety during a potentially dangerous situation.
Had a great experience purchasing trip insurance. The agent was very friendly, helpful, and fully explained the different options. Will be back! - Robert K.
